Food Justice
We have consistently seen groceries stores close and continue to have a food justice problem. With limited grocery options for residents, it is clear that leadership must start thinking outside of the box, support infrastructure of existing options and make this a ward that brings integrity back to having healthy food options.
To address food insecurity in the ward, we will
-
work on partnerships to bring in affordable, sustainable and safe grocery stores
-
become a city hub for food trucks;
-
create partnerships with urban farmers;
-
expand the farmers’ market opportunities;
-
support local vendor growth;
-
add smaller local grocery store options that residents desire;
-
stress the importance of quality, healthy and fresh food options; and
-
catalyze the creation of restaurants that offer a variety of cuisines to residents.
