Food Justice

We have consistently seen groceries stores close and continue to have a food justice problem. With limited grocery options for residents, it is clear that leadership must start thinking outside of the box, support infrastructure of existing options and make this a ward that brings integrity back to having healthy food options.

To address food insecurity in the ward, we will

  • work on partnerships to bring in affordable, sustainable and safe grocery stores

  • become a city hub for food trucks;

  • create partnerships with urban farmers;

  • expand the farmers’ market opportunities;

  • support local vendor growth;

  • add smaller local grocery store options that residents desire;

  • stress the importance of quality, healthy and fresh food options; and

  • catalyze the creation of restaurants that offer a variety of cuisines to residents.
